Comfortable counseling office for anxiety, grief, and OCD therapy in Des Moines

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where we can work together to understand your story, build practical skills, and move toward lasting healing and hope.

Therapy that is built around you.

Every person who walks through my door brings a unique story, strengths, and challenges. Because of that, I don't believe therapy should follow a rigid formula. Instead, I tailor each session to your individual needs, drawing from evidence-based approaches while creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, grief, OCD, trauma, relationship challenges, or a difficult life transition, we'll work together to identify meaningful goals and take practical steps toward them at a pace that feels manageable.

If your faith is an important part of your life, I'm also happy to thoughtfully integrate Christian beliefs into our work together. If not, your therapy will remain focused on your personal goals and values.

What you can expect:

A Compassionate Environment

Healing begins with feeling safe enough to be honest. My goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where you can openly share your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

Collaborative Care

You're the expert on your own life. I'll bring clinical knowledge and guidance, but we'll make decisions together based on your goals and values.

Evidence-Based Treatment

The approaches I use are supported by research and adapted to meet your individual needs—not simply following the same plan for every client.

Practical Skills

Together we'll develop tools that you can use outside of therapy, helping you manage difficult emotions, improve relationships, and navigate life's challenges with greater confidence.

My Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are closely connected.

CBT helps identify unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to anxiety, depression, or other emotional struggles. Together, we'll practice practical strategies that support healthier ways of thinking and responding to life's challenges.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Sometimes we need more than insight, we need skills.

DBT teaches practical tools for managing overwhelming emotions, improving relationships, increasing mindfulness, and responding more effectively during stressful situations.

Exposure & Response Prevention

Managing OCD can feel impossible, but there is hope.

ERP is considered one of the most effective treatments for OCD. Together, we'll gradually face feared situations while reducing compulsive behaviors, helping anxiety lose its power over time.

Person Centered Therapy

Healing often begins with being truly heard.

Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes empathy, acceptance, and genuine connection. I strive to create a space where you can explore your experiences without fear of judgment while discovering your own strengths and capacity for growth.

Integrating Faith into Therapy

Faith can be a meaningful source of hope, healing, and resilience. For clients who desire it, I thoughtfully integrate biblical principles into counseling while also using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

This may include:

  • Prayer (when requested)

  • Scripture

  • Exploring identity in Christ

  • Processing church hurt

  • Utilizing faith as a coping skill

Every client's preferences are respected. Whether you'd like faith to be a central part of counseling or simply appreciate working with a therapist who understands your beliefs, we'll create an approach that fits your goals.

Healing isn't about having all the answers before you begin. It's about taking one step at a time with someone who will walk alongside you.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel supported, challenged, and equipped with the tools you need to experience lasting growth.
